Sustainability Initiative

BT Squared has a long history of environmental sustainability. Environmental remediation services create the foundation for all of our services. But we don't just deliver green services to our clients; we are working to become the Greenest Engineering Firm in Wisconsin!

We have assembled a Green Taskforce comprised of employees from all levels of the company to create a sustainable Action Plan that is focused on forward thinking initiatives for the firm. This effort to "Walk the Talk" began with our own extensive carbon foot print assessment, including emissions from our building's electricity and natural gas use, our company fleet, and employee commuting.

We didn't stop there, we also conducted a waste, recycling, and purchasing audit, with dedicated staff doing the work themselves. We plan to continue the audit annually in order to track our future progress. From there we drafted a set of sustainability goals related to: climate change, energy conservation, company travel, employee commuting, paper use, sustainable purchasing, waste reduction/recycling, and land/water conservation.

Our current sustainable programs include:

• Sharing our company Toyota Prius between staff for corporate travel
• Company discounted bus passes
• Employee participation in the EnAct program, an educational and support program that helps staff reduce their individual carbon footprint
• Programmable thermostats for energy efficiency throughout the seasons.
• Light sensors throughout the office
• Memberships to Green Build, WasteCap, and FET
• WDNR committee participation
• Support for LEED accreditation

BT Squared helps our clients to clean up and protect the environment. Here are a few examples of the sustainable work that our engineers and scientists are doing:

• We help Real Estate developers remove environmental hazards, have cleaner construction sites, and prevent urban sprawl by cleaning up contaminated infill properties for redevelopment.
• We work with Solid Waste management companies to minimize the environmental impacts of landfills and capture the methane produced from landfills for energy use.
• We work with Agricultural Cooperatives to better manage their fertilizers and pesticides in order to beneficially reuse contaminated soil.
• We help Industrial & Commercial clients to improve their operations to comply with environmental regulations, and reduce environmental impacts.
• We work with Local Municipalities and the Wisconsin Department of Transportation to create smarter stormwater systems and more efficient construction projects.
